Art by Frisco Artist Bill Gerton at Von Anthony Salon

Throughout the year, the work of local artists adorn the walls of Von Anthony Salon.

Currently, we are honored to be surrounded by the beautiful art of Bill Gerton.

Bill Gerton is an artist living in Frisco, Texas.  His passion is in many forms of creative expression, including woodworking, custom furniture, sculpture, and large-scale abstract painting.  Born and raised in Colorado, he was influenced by a long line of artistic people and many variations of creativity.  Now nature and the elements are a significant source of inspiration, as are the variety of nontraditional techniques and approaches to art.

"Painting for me is a necessity, the desire to express myself through canvas and color is overwhelming.  My paintings are an act of energy, emotion, and a release of creative expression.  I find it almost impossible to contain or restrict the size, color, or technique.  My paintings run off the canvas.

I view the painting process as a natural flow of movement, elements, color and chance, and enjoy the use of nontraditional tools and methods, using sticks, blocks of wood, tree branches, gravity, whichever tool creates drama and motion.  While I enjoy the process of rendering an abstract idea into reality, often times what a painting starts as will morph into a completely different experience, depending on the characteristics of the materials used, creating an evolving, almost living piece.

I like to leave the interpretation of my work to the beholder, even to the point of deciding how a painting should hang.  There is no top or bottom, just a painting that is meant for nothing other than enjoyment."

Art by "E" The Artist at Von Anthony Salon

Throughout the year, the work of local artists adorn the walls of Von Anthony Salon.

Currently, we are honored to be surrounded by the vibrant colors of “E” The Artist.

Born in Buffalo, NY, “E” The Artist currently resides in Dallas, TX. Primarily self taught, “E” was mentored by Dallas artists JD Miller and Corky Pearson. Abstract expressionism and gestural abstraction are the influences most visible in his work.

“E” works almost entirely with a painting knife. Using vibrant colors and bold knife strokes, he sometimes lets the thick paint fall where the subconscious mind wills. “E” mixes the paint directly on the canvas then scumbles and scrapes to excavate a stratum of color.

The paintings are not meant to portray specifics but rather to represent abstractions which resonate with the visual language of each observer.

His method favors action and thought equally. This tension, present during the creation process, between control and abandonment becomes embodied in the physicality of the work. As a result, the painting’s oil-caked surface is the key to understanding not only the canvas’ underlying text but also the struggle within the artist and in every individual.

All of "E's" pieces are available for purchase. We encourage you to stop by the salon for a tour.

"E's" gallery is near downtown’s Design District:

Art by Beverly Sheveland at Von Anthony Salon - Experience Pure, Visceral Joy Through Color, Light and Texture

Throughout the year, the work of local artists adorn the walls of Von Anthony Salon.

Currently, we are honored to be surrounded by the bold, bright prints of Beverly Sheveland.

Sheveland recently made a transition from living in Dallas to living in East Texas. The transition involved learning to adeptly operate chainsaws, logger’s hooks, and a woodchipper to clear the woods for a home, an art studio (the first thing built!), and a quarter mile road to reach them. After settling into a routine that includes mending fence, working the woods, shooting copperheads and caring for snakebit dogs, Sheveland has recently been able to turn her attention to painting.

“Though my beginnings were in illustration I have always been intrigued by color, particularly the push/pull and depth that color alone can create.

As I paint I delight in the sensual effects of heavy textural paint on canvas, an emotional experience I want to share with my audience.

In today’s world, we are constantly bombarded by sophisticated digital images. In response, I strive to create simple, pure, visceral joy through elemental color, light and texture."

All of Beverly's pieces are available for purchase. We encourage you to stop by the salon for a tour and to be intrigued by the colors in Beverly's work.

Visit Beverly's website here.
